In the year 1289, King Philip the Fair has decided to build a new castle to strengthen the borders of the Kingdom of France. What starts as a humble village, Caylus will soon flourish as workers and craftsmen arrive, drawn by the promise of great opportunities. Around the castle construction site, a city begins to rise. Players take on the roles of master builders, earning prestige points and gaining the King’s favour by constructing the castle and developing the city. The game ends when the castle is completed, and the player with the most prestige points wins.
In Caylus, players compete as master builders. By constructing the King's castle and developing the surrounding city, they earn prestige points and the King's favor. The player with the most prestige points when the castle is finished wins the game.
Caylus is a deep strategy game offering multiple paths to victory. The medieval theme is excellently integrated with high-quality components and a detailed game board. Although the rulebook may seem daunting at first, the game is highly rewarding. Expect the first game to take a few hours as players familiarize themselves with the mechanics. Future games will allow for more strategic play. Caylus involves minimal luck and works well with 2 to 5 players. Mastering Caylus means you can handle most other games!
