There are probably only a few vehicles in automotive history that can compete with the Land Rover in terms of cult status.
The Land Rover Series I, II, and III are off-road vehicles produced by the British manufacturer Rovere Company. They have become an icon with their noticeable mounted spare tire. Series I was first produced by the Rover Company in 1948 as a cross between a utility vehicle and a tractor. Its distinctive shape came from the necessity to use a minimal amount of materials. It was the first 4-wheel drive vehicle with doors.
The third generation of the British stalwart known as Series III, was built unchanged from 1971 for almost 15 years. Those who also had a lot to transport off-road resorted to the version with the long wheelbase called LWF or 109.
Still very popular today, the Land Rover Series III vehicle shone with its robustness and remarkable off-road capabilities; in fact, it became the most popular to date. By the end of the series in 1985, over 440,000 of this version had been produced.
